Two dead in Nebraska Sonic shooting connected to possible truck bomb

November 22, 2020

Two people were shot dead and two others wounded in Nebraska in an attack where a possible truck bomb exploded outside a Sonic drive-in, according to cops.

Officers were already responding to alarmed calls Saturday night about a U-Haul truck with wires and pipes sticking out of it outside the fast-food restaurant in Bellevue when a volley of shots rang out, witnesses told KETV.

Videos of the chaotic scene show a huge fire where the truck then blew up after being ignited by "some fireworks or some type of device," Lt. Andy Jashinske said at a briefing at the scene.

Cops then found four people who had been shot. Two were pronounced dead and two others were taken to a local hospital with critical injures, according to KETV. None of the victims were identified.

A suspect was arrested without incident, police said in a news release. The alleged shooter was not identified and a possible motive was not given for the attack.
